Poker Rules

Learning the basic poker rules is very easy and should be combined with poker strategy guides for best results at the tables.

The basic betting rules are divided into three systems:

Limit: A limit poker game means that in each round there is a fixed amount to bet on.
No Limit: Like the name implies, there are no betting limits, you can bet all you got.
Pot Limit: Players can raise only up to the amount of the pot.

Texas Holdem Rules
Texas Hold'em is played using a standard 52 card deck. Usually there are no more than 10 players in a table.

Preflop
Each player is dealt two cards face down. These cards are known as the hole cards or pocket cards. On every hand the two players sitting to the immediate left of the dealer have to make a compulsory bet known as the blinds. The player on the dealer's left is the small blind and pays half the amount while the big blind who is on his left pays the whole ante. This is so as to get the betting rounds started. After each hand the dealer moves to the left.

As the blinds are already in the preflop betting round commences with the person to the left of the big blind. Every poker player has the choice to bet, fold and raise on seeing his cards. If everyone bets both blinds still have the option of raising if they so want or folding if someone previously has raised.

Flop
After the betting round has finished, the flop takes place when three cards which are placed face up in the middle of the table. These cards are referred as community cards and each player can use them however he wants to make the best possible five cards poker hand.

A betting round follows beginning with the first player to the left of the dealer who is still in the hand.

Turn
A fourth community card referred to as the Turn is opened with another round of betting starts.

River
A fifth community card referred to as the River is opened facing up, with another round of betting starts.

Showdown
Those players still left in the hand turn over their cards and the winner is the one with the best poker hand using any five card combination from the seven available.

In the event of a tie the pot will be split accordingly.
